I just had to share .......
On Tuesday night Michael and I were chatting and the next thing I knew we were going hiking on Thursday in the Gamkaberg! And how glad I am that we decided to do this!
Michael left early Wednesday morning and I was going to join him on Thursday morning! It was such a spontaneous decision and something we've really become good at doing - the biggest challenge of all was trying to find the right box with all our hiking gear in it! Michael did the 14,8 km hike to Ou Kraal which was really hectic and ,with my foot still not fully healed, I was very happy to drive up to join him (little did I know what the drive would entail). The website is really worth a visit and I encourage anyone who is in this area to take a peak at the website.

The drive up is hectic! You definately need a 4x4! Michael had faith in me driving - I think it's worse than Sani Pass! And we survived!

We arrived after an 1 1/2hour drive up to this amazing spot ...
 |
| The lizard popped up to welcome us as we enteredπ |
 |
An old kraal converted into four beautiful rustic cabins tucked tastefully away into the mountain topπ |
Our cabin - we had the whole place to ourselves so the choice was ours to make as to where we were going to sleep ...
 |
| A beautiful bouquet to welcome me ... |

| View from the windowπ |
The living area which we loved and still had our favourite meal - a BRAAI!
The eco toilet had the best view and I was interested to see how it worked as it was basically a normal toilet into a long drop but absolutely no smell and spotlessly clean
Michael was hot and sweaty so decided to make use of the shower facilities π€£π€£
And came out refreshed and smelling so so so so clean!
I went for a short walk as Michael was tired and the flowers were tooooooo BEAUTIFUL πππππ For a space that is so arid it truly filled my soul to find this magic on top of the mountain. It was so unexpected.
We had delicious snacks (and bubbles of course!) on a rock overlooking our cabin and watched the sun set and the wonders the world has to offer us if we slow down and take the time to look.....
The following morning saw us up bright and early ready to watch the sun rise but unfortunately it was cloudy (we'd had a few drops of much needed rain during the night) but still spectacular
We decided to do a hike/walk down the valley near the cabins and what a treat it turned out to beππ (the pictures just don't do it justice)
And then it was time to say goodbye to 'Ou Kraal' with a heart full of renewed joy and wonder for a new space that we have discovered in this beautiful country of ours πππ
We will be back with hopefully some of you in tow π
I would encourage you to do something spontaneous whenever you can
One is very seldom disappointed.
Sending love and joy from me in the Karoo πππ
