'Learn to see, learn to hear, learn to feel, learn to smell and know by practice you alone can become an expert' William Osler

Never before have I felt more in tune with my senses than I have been during these past few weeks !

Fresh smells from the bakery that embrace visual appeal .......

Rubbing the smell of lemon leaves onto our hands before planting ......

The sight and sound of the sea as you come over Garcia's Pass (Garcia's pass ) into Stillbaai - especially when you havent seen the sea for a while 😂 ......

The sound of the golf ball whizzing through the air and the feeling of joy as it decends onto the green and you make a par ......

Listening to the sounds of the seagulls as we watch 'Skedonk' (an elderly fishing boat) being taken out of the water with fresh fish to be sold.....

Listening to locals as they chat happily to us whilst opening fresh oysters and gutting the fish we had just bought .....

And tasting the delicious food prepared especially for us with so much 💖

Sharing a meal with our neighbours of fresh fish, butternut from the farm and potatoes - all braaied and seasoned with fabulous herbs and spices (and of course Bokkie's touch!)

Hearing the fervor of bees as they buzily work through the acacia blossoms to produce fragrant vynbos honey which comes in a tupperware to us via a sharing and caring network of friends  ....

Sweet Wholesome Honeycomb Honey

Scouring for slate rocks and then the fun of just playing with them ....

Playing with rocks before using them

Sensitivity to the correct texture when mixing cement, sand and water together to create a special birdbath .....

The feeling of appreciation for good health after a job well done

Contemplating the beauty of water, of friendship, of life  ............

And then its time for a full moon to rise and allow us to ponder on what a magnificient planet we live on ......

And we settle on the roof for the night and gaze up at the stars and spend a night appreciating how blessed we are

I leave you today with the beautiful spekboom outside our entrance beginning to bloom and shed its beauty into this arid, hot space and it makes me think of the words:

Against all odds and despite all the obstacles, we are going to make it and shine our light.

From me in the Karoo .........💓💓💓
