"We are a living tapestry.....living threads....being sown together" Cam Richmond

My mum absolutely loves kilims. Perhaps one of her treasured enjoyments was haggling in Turkey for the best bargain and then awaiting for the chosen kilim to arrive home. She never chose kilims for a specific 'spot' - she would choose them because she loved the pattern or the colours or even, in the rural areas of Turkey, she would choose the kilim because of the person whom she watched weaving them. Each kilim spoke to her.

As she celebrated 86 years on this planet this past week

it made me think of the fact that we are all indeed weaving our own rich kilims. We thread our own patterns of colours into each others kilim as we connect and then disappear only to re - emerge again at some later stage.

It was thus with such joy that I connected at Plett with my dear friend Ants who keeps weaving vibrancy, colour and texture into my kilim

Johan, a dear cuz, whom we spent time with over the years in various spaces, has now moved to a farm outside Plett and has picked up the 'eco' hue patterns in my kilim where he left off when we last spent time together.

He is creating a space in an area that was once before completely farmed with  wattle and gum trees and is rehabilitating the natural vegetation.
Flow Trails  is his dream where he interlinks sport and recreation together in a natural eco friendly environment. His whole vision is inspiring. He has started to clear (at the same time completely respecting the bush) to create trails and a venue that is totally off the grid and can be used as a camping/team building or even just a family getaway. He is only using recycled materials in the building process. It really is amazing.

New friends, Mo and Steve, who have only just started to weave their colours into my kelim invited us to spend a lunch and afternoon with them at Nature's_Valley. Oh what a wonderful afternoon we had and if you ever get the opportunity to visit this spot, it's really worth the effort.

Sea too gorgeous not to swim - so in my clothes I go!

Friends of Ants and Michael, Micko and Nicky, created another pattern - this time Micko who I had previously met (and in fact came to show the children at Eden when I was teaching there , his fabulous, adapted, self built over lander) added Nicky to his pattern in my beautifully rich kilim. They invited us to have a drink at their latest project outside Plett - Fairview House SO SO SO SO BEAUTIFUL๐Ÿ’“๐Ÿ’“๐Ÿ’“ Besides accommodation, they also serve breakfasts and lunches. Another worthwhile visit!

Another friend of mine Claire (better know to all of us as Clucky๐Ÿ’“) who was at school with me, popped in for a visit. Her pattern threads through my kilim right from 1975 and has never lost its glow! Unfortunately we were so busy chatting we never took a photo but this was the view!!

Of course in every tapestry there is a base colour and, I believe, my base colour is one of Experiences - we have had many of those during these 10 days at Plett......

Loads of glorious swims and boogie boarding

And then of course, the beauty of gardening with mum in soil that is soft !

So as I end off I will leave you with a reflective idea :

Imagine how rich our world is when we see each of our kilims woven together to form a kaleidoscope of beautiful colours, textures and patterns.
No individuals. Just communities.

Thank you for being a part of my kilim - each of you have played a part in who I am today. I am most grateful.

So from me in the Karoo (Garden Route this week!)
